Spotify’s prompted playlist feature will now work for podcasts, too

by Dralys Global Desk

Spotify said today that it is expanding its AI-powered feature to create playlists, called Prompted Playlist, to include podcasts as well.

The company started testing the Prompted Playlists feature in New Zealand late last year with a focus on creating music-based lists. This year, the company launched the feature in new geographies, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden.

Now, the beta feature will enable premium users in all these markets to create AI-aided playlists for podcasts in English. Users can tap on “Create” and select the “Prompted Playlists” option to get started and add a prompt such as “Make a playlist of True Crime podcasts I would be interested in. Add highly rated series I might have missed, especially ones full of twists and turns.”

Users can also select the frequency at which the playlists are updated, with options including daily, weekly (with a selection of days), and doesn’t update. The company said that when a particular episode is added to your playlist, it will carry a short note indicating why it was included in your list.

“Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen. Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal. For creators, it unlocks powerful new opportunities for discovery, bringing both back catalog and new episodes to audiences who are actively signaling what they want to hear,” Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcast Editorial, said in a statement.

Spotify noted that more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time every week on Spotify. The company is leaning into aiding more podcast discovery with this new AI-powered feature. It said that users might see Prompted Playlists created by Spotify’s culture team on their home screen, which can be easily customized by tweaking the prompt.

The audio streaming company has been making tweaks to its platform to be more podcast-friendly. Earlier this year, it lowered the criteria for monetization for video podcasts. Under the new rules, creators need to have three published podcasts, 2,000 consumption hours over the prior 30 days, and at least 1,000 engaged listeners over the last 30 days. During its Q4 2025 earnings call in February, co-CEO Alex Norström said that there were over 530,000 video podcasts on the platform.
