Comparable sales increased 0.7% over the same period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur strong first-quarter results \u2014 which marked a return to positive comparable sales growth \u2014 demonstrate that our operational and economic improvements are materializing,\u201d chief financial officer Sabrina Simmons said in a written statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Petco ranks No. 72 in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommerce360.com\/product\/top-2000-ecommerce-database\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Top 2000 Database<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The database ranks North America\u2019s largest online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Petco\u2019s Q1 omnichannel investment<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pet retailer specifically credited growth in the quarter to the success of its omnichannel strategy, a piece of a four-prong strategy leadership discussed in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommerce360.com\/2026\/03\/12\/petco-integrated-omnichannel-ecommerce-sales-q4-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Q4 of 2025.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe call it integrated omnichannel because a significant portion of customer transactions leverage a combination of our digital capabilities and our stores,\u201d Petco CEO Joel Anderson noted at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Q1, Petco grew digital traffic to its website and app by improving \u201cretail fundamentals,\u201d Anderson said, including removing friction from the checkout process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLooking ahead, we see ongoing opportunities to increase site speed and optimize shipping windows for our customers,\u201d Anderson added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) sales were up \u201cstrongly,\u201d he said without sharing specific data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cThis is our differentiation in action,\u201d Anderson assessed. \u201cBuilding loyalty through ecommerce, but physically bringing the customer into stores to experience our services. Petco previously announced the plan in March, and Anderson called loyalty one of the \u201cbiggest opportunities\u201d for Petco.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe program will be heavily focused on personalized offers based on factors like shopping frequency, customer lifetime value, a strategy that successfully drove higher sales and stickiness during our pilot,\u201d Anderson said.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Impact of tariffs and fuel prices<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Petco joined many <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other prominent retailers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in commenting on the impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommerce360.com\/2026\/06\/04\/11-retailers-cite-how-rising-oil-costs-are-impacting-supply-chains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rising oil prices and changing tariff policies<\/a> on its business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May, Petco received a refund on part of the tariffs it had paid so far. In Q1, the refund offset the impact of tariffs and higher fuel costs, Simmons said. However, the retailer is assuming that there will be no further refunds, and fuel will stay at its current price for the remainder of the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on those assumptions, Petco reiterated its outlook for the rest of the fiscal year, expecting net sales to stay flat or increase up to 1.5% in 2026.
