Below, we break down some things you may have missed during the week and what we\u2019re still thinking about.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From Oscar the Grouch-inspired trash bags to chatter about a potential sale of Puma,\u00a0here\u2019s our closeout for the week.<\/p>\n<h3>What you missed\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p><em>Versace deal closes <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Capri Holdings on Tuesday announced that it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20251201352355\/en\/Capri-Holdings-Completes-Sale-of-Versace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">completed a sale<\/a> of Versace to Prada S.p.a. For nearly $1.4 billion in cash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the successful completion of the sale of Versace, we plan to use the proceeds to repay the majority of our debt, which will substantially strengthen our balance sheet,\u201d Capri CEO John Idol said in a statement. \u201cWe remain focused on executing our strategic initiatives across Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo to maximize the potential of our iconic brands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Two days later it was reported that Versace Creative Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/dario-vitale-to-exit-versace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dario Vitale is leaving the brand<\/a>\u00a0on Dec. 12 after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/donatella-versace-steps-off-the-runway-as-dario-vitale-is-appointed-versaces-new-creative-director\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed to the role<\/a> in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><span>Somnigroup proposes supplier takeover as bedding, furniture market flounder<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Leggett &amp; Platt this week said its board is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/leggett--platt-confirms-receipt-of-unsolicited-proposal-from-somnigroup-international-inc-302629075.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reviewing an unsolicited proposal<\/a> from bedding giant Somnigroup International to acquire the 140-year-old company for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/somnigroup-proposes-to-acquire-leggett--platt-in-all-stock-transaction-302628665.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$12 per share<\/a>. Get Glad.\u201d<\/a> marketing campaign, this time featuring the grumpy Oscar the Grouch character from Sesame Street. The effort centers on a musical number that remixes Oscar\u2019s song, \u201cI Love Trash.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Along with the campaign, Glad created a limited-edition Oscar-inspired trash bag tote, per a Tuesday press release. The green Oscar fur-covered bag can be won via a social media giveaway from Glad.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Glad in April will make a special edition version of its ForceFlex trash bags available at Walmart featuring Oscar the Grouch-branded boxes.<\/p>\n<h3>What we\u2019re still thinking about<\/h3>\n<p><em>5.7%\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how much sales in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mastercard.com\/us\/en\/news-and-trends\/press\/2025\/november\/mastercard-spendingpulse--us-black-friday-retail-sales-up--4-1--.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apparel category grew on Black Friday<\/a> compared to last year, with the category jumping 6.1% online and 5.4% in stores, according to data from Mastercard. Jewelry also saw strong gains on the shopping holiday, with sales up 2.75% year over year.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, U.S. retail sales excluding auto grew over 4% versus the same period last year, while online sales surged 10.4%. In-store sales grew by a more modest 1.7%.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Consumers are showing incredible savviness this season,\u201d Michelle Meyer, chief economist at the Mastercard Economics Institute, said in a statement. \u201cThey&#8217;re navigating an uncertain environment by shopping early, leveraging promotions, and investing in wish-list items.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>What we\u2019re watching<\/h3>\n<p><em>Could Anta Sports buy Puma?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg sparked chatter last week with a report that Chinese activewear company Anta Sports is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-11-27\/china-s-anta-sports-is-said-to-explore-potential-bid-for-puma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">considering a bid for Puma<\/a>. The story, which cited anonymous sources, said Anta Sports could team up with a private equity firm to make an offer for the German brand.<\/p>\n<p>Anta Sports did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the possibility, though a Puma spokesperson said, \u201cWe are not commenting on this.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anta Sports <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.anta.com\/en\/news_detail.php?id=153056\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made 38.5 billion Yuan<\/a> ($5.45 billion) in the first half of 2025 and completed its acquisition of outdoors brand Jack Wolfskin in the period. Acquisition questions surrounding Puma come amid a turnaround effort at the German brand that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildive.com\/news\/puma-layoffs-q3-sales-declines\/804240\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">included layoffs<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildive.com\/news\/puma-ceo-arne-freundt-exits-adidas-veteran-arthur-hoeld-joins\/744474\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEO change<\/a> and the planned exit of less productive wholesale partnerships.<\/p>\n<section class=\"storylines-carousel-wrapper hide-small show-large\" id=\"desktop-carousel\"\/>\n<p>Speculation about Anta Sports as a possible acquirer comes months after rumors swirled that hometown rival Adidas could be <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/footwear-news\/shoe-industry-news\/puma-stock-market-shares-adidas-takeover-rumors-1238168039\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eyeing a purchase<\/a> of Puma.
